Advertising Taught in China

John B. Powell, BS '10, taught the first advertising course in China to 30 students in Shanghai. Powell, a former journalism professor at Missouri, was sent to China by Dean Walter Williams to assist in publishing Millard's Weekly Review in Shanghai.


J.B. Powell taught an advertising course in the Switzler Hall basement in 1915 (top) and was later sent to Shanghai. In 1927, Dean Walter Williams (front, center), visited Powell (back row, far right) and others in China.
