Jay H. Neff Hall Dedicated
|
Jay H. Neff Hall was dedicated Sept. 1, 1920, as the new home of the School of Journalism. The first floor housed the dean's office, The Columbia Evening Missourian newsroom and the library; the second floor contained a large auditorium, offices and classrooms. In the basement, the new Missourian printing plant included Linotype machines, a new duplex press, a stereotyping room, a photo-engraving lab and an advertising lab. The new press helped enlarge the six-column, four-page Missourian into an eight-column, eight-page newspaper.

The new Neff Hall had a state-of-the-art newsroom on the first floor, where professors Eugene Sharp (top left photo) and Frank L. Martin (top right photo) ran the assignment desk. In the basement, the new duplex press, Linotype machines and other mechanical equipment produced a larger Missourian newspaper (bottom four photos).
