First Master of Arts in Journalism Awarded

Maurice E. Votaw, BJ '19, received the world's first master's degree in journalism. In 1924, Votaw helped establish a journalism program at St. John's University in Shanghai, China, and became one of the founding faculty members. He later served as the adviser to the Chinese Ministry of Information before returning to the School as a faculty member in 1950.
