Early Accreditation Program Established
Dean Walter Williams, always pushing for professional distinction among the growing number of journalism schools, helped organize a national "Committee on Classification" within the American Association of Schools and Departments of Journalism. The controversial committee was an early form of accreditation that reviewed and labeled journalism programs across the country as class A, B or C.

The Missouri School of Journalism, a magnet for honor students and scholarship winners such as these photographed in 1923, achieved a top class A distinction.
