Photojournalism Emphasized with New Missourian Technology
|
Columbia Missourian officials, knowing the growing importance of photojournalism, rented a Scan-O-Graver, a mechanical photo engraver, to increase photo usage in the paper. The new technology helped the Missourian surpass its limit of five illustrations per week. The Missourian became a picture newspaper and photojournalism training flourished, according to Dean Earl English.
Learning to use the Scan-O-Graver (top left) became part of the hands-on learning focus at the Columbia Missourian, which still included copy reading (top right), advertising layout (center) and deadline reporting (bottom left, bottom right).
