Leading Quantitative Researcher Joined Faculty

William H. Stephenson, a British physicist and psychologist and founder of Q Methodology, joined the faculty. Q Method is a scientific approach to the study of subjective ideas. Stephenson's arrival marked a change in the School's research agenda, from primarily qualitative, historical research to more quantitative-based methods.
William H. Stephenson (top and center) occupied the distinguished research professor of advertising chair, a new position funded by a private donor. Stephenson met with Missouri Honor Medal recipient and advertising legend Leo Burnett in 1963 (bottom).
