Penney-Missouri Awards Established

The J.C. Penney Co. partnered with the School of Journalism to promote women's interest in journalism by establishing the Penney-Missouri Awards. The annual program honored newspaper editors and reporters for outstanding work on women's interest pages. In 1994, the Penney-Missouri Awards became the Missouri Lifestyle Journalism Awards.

James Cash Penney (top) was a native Missourian who gave generously to the University. After establishing the Penney-Missouri Awards (logo, center) he attended Journalism Week 1965 with Dean Earl English (left) and Chancellor John Schwada (right).
