Missouri Publishers Supported Journalism Education

In 1869, The Boone County Journal published an editorial in its second issue, asking, "why should we not have a school for editors?" Other advocates included Col. William F. Switzler (pictured), owner and editor of the Missouri Statesman in Columbia, and E.W. Stephens, a Columbia publisher.

Col. William F. Switzler, owner and editor of the Missouri Statesman, was a proponent of journalism education at Missouri.
