Name: Acacia Allen
Degree and Year: BJ '04 (Broadcast News)
Company: Kendle International
Company Web Site: http://www.kendle.com/
Title: Sales and Marketing
City and State: Cincinnati, Ohio

What do you do in your job?
I work at Kendle International in sales and marketing. They are an international clinical research organization headquartered in Cincinnati.

What have you faced in your career path so far?
I originally moved to Cincinnati to take the position of communications specialist for a local school district. But because of financial trouble, the position was eliminated. I had to move on to a new job just after I'd started to work there.

What is your best professional lesson learned at the J-School?
I realize that even though my job wasn't exactly in broadcast news, I could still use the skills I had learned in the J-School. You can head in many directions and have limitless opportunities. I really enjoyed sharing this good news of my job with my journalism professors.

What is one of your J-School memories?
When I was in school, I hated the camera. I hated everything about the camera. I wanted to sleep through my classes just because I never wanted to touch it. One day, Professor Greeley Kyle made me sit in the quad and "spoon" the camera. I had to lie on my side, with the camera in my stomach, and hold it. This went on for 20 minutes, until I fell "in love" with the camera. It ended up being fine. But I will never forget lying in the middle of the Quad, under the columns, with Greeley Kyle, spooning the camera. I respect him so much. I think he does incredible things for students. He helps students discover what they'd really like to do with their life and brings out the best in people. I sobbed in his office probably eight times. Even when he called me into his office for a good meeting, he handed me a box of tissues. I figured I'd probably failed something. But he said, "Great job on your last project."

What is something people might not know about you?
I like to sing, and I often sing the National Anthem at Cincinnati Reds games.
