What do you do?
I am an assistant U.S. attorney in the civil division of the Kansas City office.

How did you get your job?
After graduating from the J-School, I attended law school at the University of Minnesota. Thereafter, I worked for two large Kansas City law firms.

Best professional lesson learned at the J-School?
Good writing is a skill that can be used and is appreciated in many other fields, including the legal community.

What would be your best advice to current students?
Strive to improve your writing by working with other good writers, reading good literature and practicing both your technical and creative writing skills. Also, take time to get to know other students in the J-School. Make the effort to keep in touch with the friends you have made.

What makes you good at your job?
Good writing, thinking on my feet and articulating my thoughts effectively and persuasively. Good communication skills are helpful not only in dealing with co-counsel and clients, but also opposing counsel.

What is one thing you wished you had done, or something you aspire to do?
I am beginning research to write a children's book.
