Degree and Year: BJ '03 (Strategic Communication), BA '03 (Spanish) Company: Osborn & Barr Communications Company Web Site: http://www.osborn-barr.com/ Title: Public Relations Account Executive City and State: St. Louis, Mo. What do you do? I work on the Monsanto account, what is called the "traits" side of the business. One example is that I interview farmers in the Corn Belt, asking them to share their experiences with the different kinds of corn technologies that they use. How did you get your first job? I interned at two international public relations agencies: Fleishman-Hillard and Weber Shandwick Worldwide. What I learned at these two internships really helped me with my full-time job search. What is the best professional lesson that you learned at the J-School? Networking. I can't tell you how much connections help. What are some other ways you develop your skills? I do freelance writing. I have had several articles published in Sauce Magazine, a St. Louis food/culture/entertainment magazine. What advice do you have for current students? Enjoy college. Don't cut it short because once you are out, you leave a nice comforting bubble we call "college." Be sure to get major traveling out of your system before you start working. Think about it: When you start working you will never have winter breaks, summer breaks or spring breaks again. Kinda scary, huh? What is something about you that might surprise people? I am a pianist and a piano teacher. Every once in a while I will play at cocktail hours and weddings.
