What are your latest accomplishments?
I constructed and maintain the "Missourimemories" Web site, a site dedicated to my Missouri-oriented photography projects. I tackle self-assigned photo assignments and projects that interest me. I have exhibited "Missouri Courthouses" at the Rozier Gallery in Jefferson City, a photo exhibition of Missouri's 114 county courthouses. I also devote time to other media - oils and watercolor mainly. I try to travel as much as possible - most recently to Point Lobo reserve and Yosemite national park in California.

Family updates
First-born daughter Kristin currently is working on a PhD degree at MU. Son Michael is working on a PhD degree at University of Arizona in Tucson. Youngest daughter Jennifer is senior producer of news programming at KRCG-TV in Jefferson City.

What would be your dream job?
Is Ansel Adams's job open?

What did you learn in the J-School that has helped you in your professional career?
First, that you never say "J-School" and second that the media is a mirror that reflects our society. If you don't like what you see being reported in the media, look to yourself to make a difference.

What would be your best advice to current students?
If you want to understand the act of communication, it requires rigorous scientific study, intense soul searching, and humility. If you want to work as a paid communicator (journalist) for media outlets, you should acknowledge that it is a job -- with all of the obligations and opportunities that make our free enterprise system what it is. When you learn to juggle those two sharp objects without hurting yourself or others, you'll be a more sane person. And, by the way, what you learn in college is good for about five years max, so don't puff up too much when you go out into the world with a degree from one of the finest journalism school in the world. It really does annoy people.

What about you would surprise people?
I am still trying to surprise myself.
