Degree and Year: MA '00 (Advertising) Company: Ogilvy & Mather Company Web Site: http://www.ogilvy.com/ Title: Account Supervisor City and State: New York, N.Y. What do you do? I work on the IBM account, specifically on the brand's systems business unit (servers & storage). My job involves working with clients to develop the campaign strategy and manage the day-to-day activities within the agency to ensure that the strategy remains intact throughout the creative and production process. A large part of my job also includes managing client expectations in regards to timing (how long it will take to produce creative and be in market) and budget (realistically briefing clients on what their money will provide them); selling creative ideas that may seem scary, but make strategic sense; and conducting post campaign analyses to learn from best practices and reiterate the value clients are getting for their money. How did you get your job? I interned at Ogilvy in New York while finishing my master's project and fell in love with the city right from the beginning. I decided to stay in New York after completing my project and accepted a position with another New York ad agency. I worked there for two years prior to returning to Ogilvy, where I've been for close to two years. Best professional lesson learned at the J-School? The J-School curriculum provided a great mix of theory and practical experience. There were a few specific professors that had a profound impact on my education and my career. They challenged me to think critically and look at the world in a new way. Concepts like branding, strategy and mass communications seeped into my everyday experience and affected the way I perceived the events happening around me. What would be your best advice to current students? Be passionate about what you do and don't take no for an answer. Regardless of how competitive the marketplace is, if you have passion and determination you will land on your feet eventually. What is one thing you wish you had done? Joined the Beefeater's Club at Alexander's Steakhouse. Never could get it together.
