Degree and Year: BJ '01 Company: American Junior Golf Association Company Web Site: http://www.ajga.org/ Title: Director of Communications City and State: Braselton, Ga. What do you do? The American Junior Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. My responsibilities include, maintaining relationships with the local and national media by establishing and following the AJGA's media plan. I am the web content editor of ajga.org and editor-in-chief of the Association's E-newsletter (25,000 circulation), The AJGA Link. I also direct a department of three managers responsible for the dissemination of information to the local and national media. In addition to my work at the AJGA, I also free-lance write for three national and regional golf publications. Because of my position, I have become an authority on the world of junior golf. How did you get your job? I interned for the Association after graduating from Mizzou. I was hired full-time after the summer internship in August 2001 as a manager of media relations. I now serve over this department. Best professional lesson learned at the J-School? For the most part, people have little or no regard for grammar and the written English language. The rigorous editing classes I endured while at Mizzou instantly made me a grammar guru at my company. Every piece of paper that is mailed or sent to the public comes across my desk at least once. What are you working on currently? My looming project in 2004 will be establishing media partners for each of our eight "major" events. We have a tremendous amount of coverage on the local level, so I am working with these local outlets to establish a working relationship between the event and a specific medium. What do you consider to be your greatest professional achievement? My greatest professional achievement is being 24 and running a department at the largest golf association of its kind. What did you want to do as a kid? As a kid, I wanted to be a writer.
