Degree and Year: BJ '01 (Magazine) Company: 417 Magazine Title: Art Director City and State: Springfield, Mo. What do you do? As Art Director, I am in charge of the art department, which includes designers, photographers and illustrators. I work with the publisher and editor to determine story content, and then create and carry out a vision. At the same time, I am working with the editor to plan future issues. What makes your publication unique? It's a lifestyle magazine, featuring food, home and garden, travel and tourism and features. It's entertaining and lighthearted. What was your dream profession? How has your education at the Journalism school helped? I always knew I wanted to be a journalist. If it weren't for my Journalism education, I wouldn't have been able to step into this job. Every single class prepared me. What are your recommendations for students? Start early getting internships. By working with a lifestyle magazine, you can see every single side, helping in every department. It also is good to have experience in a national magazine, where you work in only one department. Also, keep an open mind. You don't know what's going to happen. What has been your greatest achievement? Being young and the art director of a magazine. Working in this field is amazing.
