On the benefits of her journalism degree:
My Mizzou degree in journalism paved the way for me to receive a Master of Arts in English Education from New York University in 2000, to begin a program at Columbia University and to start my own promotional business called YNTS: You Need To Succeed.

In the nine years I have been in New York City, I have successfully worked with record companies such as J Records, Def Jam and Bad Boy Entertainment; clothing lines such as Baby Phat, Akademiks and Gilyard; and radio stations such as Hot 97 and WBLS where my writing services were used to coordinate fundraisers for New York City and New Jersey schools.

On her teaching recognition:
I also was featured on PBS and in newspapers with New York State Education Commissioner Richard Mills for raising the reading and writing test scores of students at Middle School 385 in the Bedford Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, N.Y.
