MARÍA LEN-RÍOS' research focuses on three areas: health communication with an emphasis on groups with health disparities; public relations campaigns and image repair; and marketing to Hispanic audiences. Her work has been published in leading journals, including the Newspaper Research Journal, Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly, The Journal of Promotion Management, Public Relations Review and Public Relations Quarterly.
Len-Ríos has received several awards for her work:
Top Four Faculty Paper: Science Communication Interest Group, AEJMC (August 2004)
Teaching Fellowship: Journalism Workshop on Teaching: Writing, Reporting and Editing, Indiana University, sponsored by The Poynter Institute (June 2003)

Len-Ríos teaches courses in the areas of public relations, mass media and cross-cultural journalism. Her professional experience includes working in government, agency and corporate public relations and marketing, as well as consulting. Previously, Len-Ríos taught at The University of Kansas and at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro.
Len-Ríos is a member of the the International Communication Association and the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. For AEJMC she has served as a member of the executive committee for the Communication Theory and Methodology, Public Relations and Minorities and Communications divisions and the Commission on the Status of Women.
