Journalism Professor Honored by Stephens College
Columbia, Mo. (Jan. 20, 2004) -- Missouri Journalism professor Cynthia Frisby was one of three individuals to be honored by Stephens College in Columbia at the 2004 Martin Luther King Jr. Awards Convocation.
Dr. Frisby and City of Columbia Mayor Darwin Hindman and Stephens senior Yashunda Gift were recognized for embodying the principles and human values reflected in the work of Martin Luther King Jr.
Frisby, an assistant professor, has taught at the Missouri School of Journalism since January 1998. She has received numerous teaching awards including one of the University's highest teaching honors, the William T. Kemper Award for Excellence in Teaching. She previously taught in the advertising department at the University of Florida's College of Journalism and Communications in Gainesville, Fla., from 1995-1997.
Frisby has completed several nationally recognized research projects, including those dedicated to helping health organizations develop communication campaigns for underserved populations. She lends her consultation services to Edward Jones, in St. Louis, where she assists in the development and creation of messages aimed at ethnic minorities, including African, Hispanic (Latino) and Asian Americans.
Frisby earned an associate's degree in business administration from Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville, Fla.; bachelor's degree in psychology with a minor in communication processes and disorders from the University of Florida; and a master's degree in mass communication and a doctorate degree in philosophy from the University of Florida's College of Journalism and Communications.
