"I am greatly honored because I was nominated by the students." Brooks said, "We have the best journalism students in the world, and I am privileged to work with them."

Brooks is completing his 30th year on faculty and he has been the associate dean of undergraduate studies since January 2003. Brooks said that his duties as associate dean of undergraduate studies entail helping undergraduates in various ways, which include freshman recruiting, student advising and facilities management.

"Brian has devoted his long career at Missouri to giving undergraduate students the best possible intellectual an professional experiences," Dean Mills, dean and professor of journalism, said. "I'm delighted that this outstanding educator has been recognized with this prestigious award."

While at the Missouri School of Journalism, Brooks has also received the Faculty-Alumni Award for the MU Alumni Association in 2002. Brooks said that it is important to him for the students to be successful and he hopes that it shows, since he really cares about the students.

In order to be considered for the Excellence in Education Award, students nominate faculty and a committee reviews the nominations and selects the awardees. There are ten awards that are given annually. Recipients of the 2004 award include faculty from the business school, engineering, law, aerospace studies, arts and sciences, agronomy and psychological sciences. Past recipients of the award include Charles Davis, associate professor of journalism, who received the award in 2003.
