Woelfel Selected as Chairman-elect for RTNDA
Columbia, Mo. (April 23, 2008) -- Stacey Woelfel was elected national chairman-elect of the Radio-Television News Directors Association at its recent meeting in Las Vegas. He will produce the 2009 RTNDA convention.

An associate professor at the Missouri School of Journalism, Woelfel also serves as news director for KOMU-TV, the only university-owned commercial television station in the United States that uses its newsroom as a working lab for students.
"Stacey Woelfel is an outstanding journalist and an outstanding manager. He is a champion of an independent news media, as evidenced by his years of leadership under difficult conditions at KOMU-TV," said Kent Collins, chair of the radio-television journalism faculty at the School. "And, he is an efficient administrator, supervising four faculty editors, a dozen staff members and 120 part-time students in our news, weather and sports operation. RTNDA is lucky to have a journalist of such exemplary talents."
Woelfel is a member of the association's executive committee, has served as the chair of the ethics committee, and is a member of the convention planning and education committees. He also serves as a member of the board of governors of the Mid-America Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
Woelfel is a winner of the Payne Award for Ethics in Journalism, the Emmy, the Edward R. Murrow Award and numerous regional and local awards. He is a frequent instructor in free media practices for journalists worldwide. Woelfel recently authored a chapter in the book Silenced: International Journalists Expose Media Censorship. He holds a doctorate in political science from the University of Missouri.

Oct. 11, 2006: Woelfel to Be the First Missouri Journalism Faculty Member Inducted into Elite "Silver Circle" Stacey Woelfel, a radio-television journalism instructor and news director for KOMU, will be inducted into the Silver Circle of the Mid-America Chapter of the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences at the 30th Anniversary EMMY Gala on Oct. 28 in St. Louis. Jan. 12, 2006: Two Journalism Students Win Hearst Broadcast Awards Missouri School of Journalism students Travis Thompson and Marie Saavedra are among the top 20 winners in the features competition of the 2005-2006 Hearst Journalism Awards for broadcast news. Thompson tied for seventeenth place; Saavedra tied for nineteenth place. The Hearst Journalism Awards Program is presented annually under the auspices of the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication (ASJMC) with full-funding by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation. June 3, 2005: KOMU-TV News Director Meets with President Bush Stacey Woelfel and other members of the board of directors of the Radio-Television News Directors Association met with President Bush on Wednesday. During the hour-long discussion, the president demonstrated his support for free speech, acknowledged the importance of local media in shaping public debates, but stopped short of endorsing a federal shield bill for journalists.
