Stacey Woelfel Becomes Chair of the Radio-Television News Directors Association
Las Vegas (April 30, 2009) -- The chairman's gavel was passed to Stacey Woelfel at the close of the recent meeting of the Radio-Television News Directors Association held in conjunction with the National Association of Broadcasters.

Woelfel, BJ '81, is an associate professor at the Missouri School of Journalism and the news director for KOMU-TV, the University of Missouri-owned NBC affiliate for central Missouri. The commercial station serves as the teaching laboratory for the Missouri School of Journalism.
Previously Woelfel has served in other RTNDA leadership positions, including as a member of the executive committee, chair of the ethics committee and a member of the convention planning and education committees. He also serves as a member of the board of governors of the Mid-America Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Woelfel is a winner of the Payne Award for Ethics in Journalism, the Emmy, the Edward R. Murrow and numerous regional and local awards. He is a frequent instructor in free media practices for journalists worldwide. Woelfel is the author of Suspicious Signs: Effects of Newscaster Scripts, Symbols, and Actions on Audience Perceptions of News Organization Bias. He holds a doctorate in political science from MU.

Oct. 11, 2006: Woelfel to Be the First Missouri Journalism Faculty Member Inducted into Elite "Silver Circle" Stacey Woelfel, a radio-television journalism instructor and news director for KOMU, will be inducted into the Silver Circle of the Mid-America Chapter of the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences at the 30th Anniversary EMMY Gala on Oct. 28 in St. Louis. Jan. 12, 2006: Two Journalism Students Win Hearst Broadcast Awards Missouri School of Journalism students Travis Thompson and Marie Saavedra are among the top 20 winners in the features competition of the 2005-2006 Hearst Journalism Awards for broadcast news. Thompson tied for seventeenth place; Saavedra tied for nineteenth place. The Hearst Journalism Awards Program is presented annually under the auspices of the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication (ASJMC) with full-funding by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation.
