SHARON SANTUS has worked for more than two decades as a reporter and editor with newspapers in Pennsylvania, Virginia and Missouri. As a reporter, she has nearly 40 awards in investigative reporting, deadline reporting, feature writing and commentary. As an editor, her reporters have been honored more than 60 times for investigative reporting, feature writing and in-depth series. In 2001, she received the annual Editor's Award at the Daily Press in Newport News, Va. She is a recipient of the American Council on Germany John J. McCloy Fellowship, and winner of the European Commission National Essay Contest.

She has a bachelor's degree in sociology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She has a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University, where she concentrated in international affairs and was research assistant to James W. Carey, Ph.D. She is former president of both the Pennsylvania Women's Press Association, and the Indiana, Pa. Chapter of Women in Communications, and former advisory member of the Pennsylvania Newspaper Publishers Association. She is a member of Investigative Reporters and Editors, and Journalism and Women's Symposium.
