The Missouri London Program allows you to participate in a remarkable experience abroad, engaging in both class work and real work experience! You will be placed in an internship in your sequence. The opportunity to work in an international environment and demonstrate your journalism skills while getting to know Brits first-hand, makes this program our most popular.
In addition to the internship, you will also take one course, International Issues Reporting. The class is a journalism course taught by an MU Journalism faculty member participating in the program. It will examine the British media system (all sequences) and incorporate an American comparison. Program Dates: Approximately mid-May through mid-August.
Host Institution: Imperial College
The Missouri London Program is led by a group of Missouri faculty members from various schools. Although the courses are not taught by one "university," they are set on one of England's finest campuses, Imperial College.
Take advantage of the opportunity to meet and socialize with British students at Imperial College by getting involved in a campus organization or visiting their student union in your main classroom building. The students receive the Imperial College Union ID Card when they arrive in London. This allows them to participate in most I.C. Union activities, clubs, and societies as well as receive student discounts or subsidized meals at the lunch/dinner places on campus. This card is not a full Imperial College Student ID; students do not officially enroll at I.C. so they will not get discounts on tube passes, etc. However, the ID will allow you to partake in campus events throughout the semester.
Area
Walking past the reconstructed Globe Theatre, once home to infamous works of London playwright William Shakespeare, following the path along the river Thames leads you beyond the world-famous Tate Modern Museum and finally under the enormous London Eye, the largest Ferris wheel in the world which towers over the city's skyline. Crossing the river, you will be met by a crowd of souvenir peddlers, anxious to sell you miniature Big Bens and bags of roasted almonds. Once across the bridge, you now bear witness to the historic and still active Houses of Parliament, the towering structure of Big Ben and finally Westminster Abbey. Can you imagine that seeing all this is possible in less than an hour of walking? Tied together by one of the oldest and most effective underground transportation systems in the world, the London Tube, as a student you will be able to explore all that London has to offer. The city of London is truly a mix of new and old, of fast-paced business and of slow moving pubs. To experience it all, there is no better way than to spend time as a student in the Missouri London Program, submersing yourself in a culture rich in history and budding with modern amenities.

The internship earns you six hours of Journalism Elective credit. In addition, the International Issues Reporting course will earn you another three hours of Journalism Elective credit.
Costs
MU attempts to make the costs of studying abroad affordable for you. Generally, study abroad experiences cost a bit more than credits taken on-campus at MU, but include new experiences, cultures, languages, and often times housing, flight costs, and other program related costs. It's highly recommended that you outline a budget for yourself of what you would spend during a semester here at MU and compare it to study abroad costs.
Because this is a fee paying program, it is more expensive than an exchange program. The International Enrichment program fee is approximately $7,100, which includes housing, internship, program-related activities, on-site orientation and assistance, round-trip flight from Chicago, and housing deposit fee. In addition, you will be billed MU educational fees (9 credits) and a $500 MU Study Abroad fee. Additional expenses to consider for this program include personal and internship-related transportation, insurance, meals, and other miscellaneous expenses.
Please note that there are scholarships and other financial options available to you to help make study abroad part of your college experience!
Financial Aid
The financial aid you normally receive for your classes at MU is usually applicable. Additional grants, loans or scholarships may be available to offset the extra costs of studying abroad. Please meet with the advisor for study abroad financing at the MU Financial Aid Office (11 Jesse Hall) for more complete information: 573-882-7506.
The School of Journalism offers need-based travel scholarships each semester. Applications are available on our Web site. You can also apply for additional scholarships through the MU International Center (Memorial Union). Watch our Web site for special program scholarship announcements each semester.
Housing
International Enrichment provides housing in apartments or flats, in downtown London. Located in South Kensington, you will be near many restaurants, shops, and cafés.
